My dog listens now (2009-06-28)
My wire fox terrier developed the habit of running away when I said 'stay' or 'come', getting herself into some dangerous situations. She listened perfectly on leash or in a confined area, but loose, forget it. She also started chasing cars down the mile-long driveway. In desperation not to see her get killed, I ordered this collar from Amazon. Note that the advertising states that there is an instruction manual AND a training manual included; this is not true. The only thing included is the instruction manual on how to operate the collar, but not in what context, ie, when to push what button. This is why I give it only three stars. Thinking the training manual was missing, I sent the collar back to Amazon. Then learned from my local pet store that there is no training manual included. I got another collar from them, after finding someone familiar with collar use who was willing to help with training.

The results were astonishing. In two days, my completely out of control terrier turned into a well-behaved dog. I still put the collar on her for trips off the property, but so far haven't had to push the buttons, because she always comes when called, and stays put when I tell her to. It's great to see her sit and watch the cars drive away!

Worked well when it worked (2009-06-07)
My friend has a very smart Cocker Spaniel, who only listens when he is on the leash, so I bought this collar for Her. I told her to put the collar on the dog for about a week before using the controller, so the dog would not relate the collar to the shock. I also told her not to show the dog the controller, or point it at him when using it.

Well, she listened on the first point, but not on the second.
She was trying to figure out what setting would get his attention, and had the controller visible while adjusting it.
Later that day, the dog found the controller and destroyed it.
Try the 5 setting to start with. Setting 1 is like putting your tongue on a 9v battery. Yes. We tried it on ourselves first.
The range we got was about 10 yards.
The button has to be firmly pressed to activate.
I wish the control was a bit more resistant to dog attack.
Remember you don't want the dog to relate the controller to your authority.

Little Dog trainer (2009-05-26)
It took me only three days of actually having to zap my little stubborn spaniel. Now I only use the beeper when he needs some prompting to do as he is told. Before purchasing the Petsafe Little Dog Remote Trainer I was beginning to think he would have to be tied out or on a leash at all times. Now he gets out and runs and plays with my other two dogs.

Great Device! (2009-05-26)
This worked fantastic! We have a 1 year old Rat Terrier. We only had to use it four times. We now have the best behaved dog on the block! She comes immediately when we call her now and is a happier dog as we let her out anytime she wants.

Excellent buy (2009-05-02)
We purchased this for our beagle, who would run wild throughout the neighborhood when he got loose. After working with him for only a few days, he responds immediatly, not to the shock, but to the beep. We try to use the shock as infrequently as possible, and have found that is really isn't necessary all that often. Every once in a while he will challenge the beep, and we are forced to shock, but really not that often. This item has not only allowed us to enjoy time with our pet outside, but has given him more freedom to roam the yard.

I've read that the battery is an issue. We've used it for a few weeks, and no problems, but have always remembered to turn it off. I can see, though, how not remembering could be an issue.
